The Swan

I took this photo during a photography workshop, and it was the first time I used a digital camera instead of my phone. We were allowed to go outside and capture anything that caught our eye. Luckily for me, a beautiful swan was swimming in the lake, so I tried to get close and take a good shot. I wasn’t paying much attention to the camera settings yet, so the photo turned out a bit dark. Later, I edited it in Photoshop to make the colours more vibrant and give the image a more lively feel, while keeping the swan as the clear focus of the picture.

Forest Hike

For this second photo, I went hiking in the forest with my boyfriend and brought a digital camera to experiment with different settings and angles. We tried taking pictures in all kinds of spots, but the weather wasn’t great, because the sky was completely white and it was starting to get dark. After the photoshoot, I edited my favorite picture and made it more vibrant, so the trees looked greener and the sky less gray.

MAGAZINE SPREAD

Double-page magazine spread for a water museum

Water Museum

For this school assignment, I had to visit a museum and create a magazine spread about my experience and the way interactive media was used there. I chose the Water Museum in Arnhem, a small and playful museum mainly designed for kids who enjoy experimenting and learning about water.

In my spread, I describe what the museum is about and how its interactive elements help visitors learn in a fun and engaging way. I created the layout in Adobe InDesign and Photoshop. For the photos on the right, I removed the background in Photoshop to keep the spread clean and focused. This was also the first time I worked with grids, which helped me make the design more organised and visually appealing.

Media Use

For one of my school projects, I created a magazine spread about my own media use and the types of media I rely on the most. I kept a journal for a week and wrote down how often I used media and why. Based on those notes, I designed an infographic to show the results. It was actually the first project I ever made using Adobe tools, which made it even more fun to experiment with.

On the left side of the spread, you can see the infographic. To make sure the right side matched the same look and feel, I used the same color palette and circular shapes throughout the design. On the right, I explain why I use so much media and reflect on the habits I noticed during that week.

CAMPAIGN

Campaign poster Filters Er Af

No Filters

The final assignment of my first semester was to create a campaign. We had to design a poster and an interactive media piece that brought the campaign to life. I chose to focus on beauty filters, because they’re everywhere on social media and often make people compare themselves to something that isn’t real. The message of my campaign was that you shouldn’t compare yourself to the internet because without filters, you’re the prettiest.

To show this, I split my poster into two halves. On the left, I edited the face in Photoshop to look like a typical filtered version. On the right, I left the face completely natural. Above the edited side it says “pretty,” and above the unedited side it says “prettiest.” The title translates to “no filters,” which reinforces the message that real beauty doesn’t need editing.

Campaign wall with sticky notes

For the interactive part of the campaign, I wanted to create something that really involved people. I ended up coming up with a simple idea that worked surprisingly well. I asked classmates to look into a small mirror and then write on a sticky note what they liked about themselves, something no filter could change. While they were lining up and filling out their notes, I filmed the whole process. After everyone who wanted to join had participated, I edited the footage into a short video using Premiere Rush.
